Presentation

For several decades, ecological studies were based on abstracting or removing the effects of the spatial context and scales at which the patterns and processes studied took place. This allowed for considerable theoretical progress, to the point were ignorance of spatial effects begun to be perceived as a constraint for ecological studies. This shift in interest was facilitated by key technological advances – such as remote sensing, precise geo-referencing, and information theory (GIS).

The Laboratory of Spatial Ecology focuses its research on fundamental and applied questions which resolution may gain significantly from the explicit incorporation of the spatial component.

We also have a research line focused on the science-policy interface.
